Tant Saree
Tant sarees are woven in towns like Shantipur, Phulia and Dhaniakhali in West Bengal. They have wide colourful borders and pallus with paisleys, fish and flower patterns, and are easy to starch for a crisp look.
Garad, Kantha and Muslin Sarees
Garad sarees are white or off-white silk sarees with a red border, worn for puja and family functions. Kantha work sarees have running-stitch embroidery that creates birds, flowers and stories across the saree; kantha stitch sarees on silk make lovely gifts. Bengal is also famous for fine muslin sarees. For woven motifs, see Jamdani sarees; for white-red pujo looks, see white sarees.
